Before Standard Chartered
I graduated with a BA in Finance and International Banking Business from the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade(SIFT), one of the leading Business Schools in Shanghai and China. I was a scholarship winner every semester and Chairman of Student Union. This background meant that I came to the Bank with some solid financial knowledge and management skills.
Why Standard Chartered?
Standard Chartered appealed to me firstly because the programme available was tailor made, and no-one, me included, wants to be ‘merged into mud’! Secondly, the Bank has 150 years of history and yet its current culture is very dynamic, practical and enthusiastic. Last but not the least, it was the people at the Bank, from the people who interviewed me to the senior management I have met; they are the type of people with whom you feel you can make a real difference.
Making the most of my time
To make the most of my time at the Bank, I have to learn really fast and then contribute. There''s no time to lay back, the banking industry is not somewhere you can relax so you always need to be prepared for the next challenge. To work well, it’s important to know your strengths and there’s always an opportunity to talk to your manager about your ideas and thoughts, which helps. I always try to let people around me know what I can do to contribute; communication is a key for me. Trust is also important in the way I work; where there''s trust, there''s the future. Everything here in the Bank is built on people''s trust.
We lead the way in China
China is a very exciting market. We lead the way in developing a standardized market environment as we know more about this market than any of the other banks. We are not only selling products or services but also introducing banking and financing culture to the market in China. I have moved around China in my different roles and this has helped with my outlook on this fascinating country.
And my future?
The experience of my last two years has broadened my horizons. I have had exposure to different functions of the banking system and there is always something to learn wherever you go, whoever you talk to. Looking forward, it’s important to manage your own career and make sure you are on the right track. I am on track and hope to be one of the best Cash Consultants and Relationship Managers to fight for our Bank and win deals in the years to come。
